Readers Story: I Slept With My Boss to Get Ahead at Work
Dear Danni,
A few months ago I was facing a lot of trouble in my personal life. I was going to get evicted from my apartment as I had failed to pay my rent on time for the past few consecutive months as I was really low on the money.
I decided that I would apply for a promotion at work and hopefully the raise in salary would help me get through my financial struggles. I put my application in and was quite surprised to get a response from my boss asking me to attend a meeting after hours in his office to discuss what the job would entail.
we started off by discussing what interested me in applying for the promotion which then lead onto what I would be willing to do to get the job. Before I knew it, I was undressing myself and having sex with my boss on his work desk.
I did get the promotion but the fact that I slept with my boss to get it has been really eating me up. I’m also concerned that my boss may feel like as I’ve done it once that I won’t hesitate to do it again and I really don’t want to have to do this again.
I was hoping you could give me some advice if how I’m feeling is normal or if leaving my job all together would be the best option.
Andrea

ADVICE:
Well Andrea, I can see that you’ve managed to get yourself in a bit of trouble here. Honestly, once someone is aware of the fact that you will offer up sexual favours for something in return there’s no telling what they will offer you in the future and expect that you will respond in the same way as before. As for your job, you may find yourself in a position where your boss asks something of you which you’re not willing to do and if you turn him down you may find yourself out of the job. I understand that you may not think it’s possible for that to happen but if your boss could do something unprofessional and take advantage of you knowing that you really wanted the promotion then their idea of good business Is pretty unusual. I would say try find yourself a new job and then put your resignation in as quick as you can. You don’t want to find yourself in a position where your name is being ruined and you’re unable to find work. Or even find yourself in danger by being around a boss who’s asking you to do something you don’t give consent to.
Hope this helps a bit.
